FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Our first session will include:

1 – A conversation – Your therapist will give you time to share about your issues so that we can define your goals for therapy. (What do you want out of our therapeutic time?)

2 – A comprehensive, whole body examination (posture, functional movements, strength, flexibility) to determine the root cause of your problem, how we can reduce symptoms, and how we can create long term change.

3 – Treatment. Your therapist will give you tools on day 1 and at each session that you can use to create better health and function.

4 – Time to ask questions – At Luminous Physio, we ask a lot of questions and want you to feel the freedom to ask anything that will help you understand your body better.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable that allows you to move your hips, knees, arms, and spine freely.

Do you treat athletes?

We do! We love helping athletes get back to their sport of choice!

What is included in a pelvic floor muscle examination? Do I need one?

If you are having issues with leaking, constipation, pain with penetration, or long-standing pelvic and/or abdominal pain, then assessing the pelvic floor muscles can be a very important piece in your path to healing. Pelvic floor muscle assessment is also important when preparing for labor and when recovering from childbirth.

Examination includes visualizing and palpating the musculature near the urethra, vagina (front hole), and anus (back passage) externally through clothes, externally with clothes removed, and/or internally to determine strength, length, mobility, and function.

We will decide together if, when, and what kind of pelvic floor muscle exam is appropriate for you.  You can choose to skip or modify part of the examination or treatment anytime. You can even change your mind from session to session. We are here to support you by providing options that allow you to feel successful, confident and safe.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We request 48 hours notice for any cancellation or rescheduling of sessions. Any session that is cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full session fee.

What is your COVID Policy?

We are deeply committed to reducing the spread of COVID-19 and all infectious diseases. Masks are now optional for all in-person sessions. If you need to cancel because of a positive COVID test or other contageous illness (ie: hand foot and mouth), we reserve the right to waive the cancellation fee. If you are having a pain flare, we want to see you! We can help with that!

Do you take insurance?

Luminous Physio is a cash-based, out-of-network provider which means we do not have a contract with any insurance networks. Structuring the business this way enables us to provide you 55 minutes of our physical therapists’ full knowledge and attention as well as digital access between sessions via a secure online patient portal when questions or complications arise. Together, you and your physical therapist will decide what type of support works best for you, how often our sessions will occur, and what treatments will get you where you want to be the most effectively.

Can I use my out-of-network benefits?

If you have out-of-network benefits coverage, we encourage you to submit a “Superbill” to your insurance provider. A Superbill is a detailed receipt that includes your diagnosis codes (ICD-10 codes), procedure codes (CPT codes), and the amount you paid for each service during our sessions. Your insurance company will reimburse you based on your out-of-network benefits, out-of-network deductible, co-insurance, and their allowed amount. Reimbursement depends on your specific insurance plan and may not be equivalent to the amount paid or may not be reimbursed at all. Contact your insurance provider to understand the details of your policy.

Note: We have many patients with excellent out-of-network benefit reimbursement (60-90%). We also have several patients who have no out-of-network benefits and still choose Luminous Phsyio because of the quality and convenience of care. Whatever your situation, we can provide you with a Superbill for your session.
